The Maldives is one of those ‘aspirational destinations’ that every points and miles collector has on their radar (rightfully so!)  That and  the Park Hyatt Vendome in Paris.  I’m certainly no exception.

When a friend and I were able to locate the necessary award space for a trip mid June, 2013 that would work for both of us, I quickly jumped on board.  The trip would allow me to experience three amazing first class international flight products, along with some top notch resort and high end hotel stays -all booked with points and miles.  I would have two flights on Cathay Pacific International First Class, a flight on Malaysian International First Class Suites (on the A380) and the legendary Lufthansa First Class experience (on the new 747-8) from Frankfurt.

In addition I would get to visit Singapore, Male, Rangali Island, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Berlin and Frankfurt.  The flight plan looked something like this:

LAX-SFO -> American First Class (Using AA Miles)

SFO – HKG -> Cathay Pacific First Class

HKG – SIN ->  Cathay Pacific First Class

SIN – MLE, MLE -> SIN -> Singapore Businss Class (Using US Miles)

SIN – KUL -> Malaysian Coach (paid positioning flight)

KUL – CDG -> Malaysian First Suites (*Using Avios)

CDG – TXL -> Air Berlin Coach (Using Avios)

TXL – FRA -> Lufthansa Business Class (Using UA Miles)

FRA – IAD – > Lufthansa First Class

IAD – LAX ->  United First Class

Total Points Used:

AA:  67.5k

US:  30k

BA: 37.5k

UA:  67.5k
